Airborne!

This post has been a long time in coming!  The entire time we have been at this duty station {3.5 yrs!} Garrett has been a part of the 82nd Airborne Division, which means yes, he jumps out of planes!  Whenever possible the drop zone is open to the public for anyone wanting to watch.  I always wanted to take the kiddos but Garrett's jumps always seemed to be at night, or during training exercises, or right in the middle of the afternoon during nap time so it just never worked out.  We were both pretty bummed in thinking that we were going to PCS having missed out on watching a jump :( .  AND THEN.  Garrett reported that a jump was happening (last Friday) mid-morning and he could come out with us to watch!  yay.

We took our seats on the bleachers just as a plane was coming in,  Perfect timing!

On this particular day it was a joint operation {Friendship Jump} with the German Airborne {Fallschirmjager}.  The aircraft, pilot, and jump master team were all German.  And our Soldiers who jump earned their German Parachutist Badge......flashy foreign bling to put on their uniform, for all you civilians ;) .

~i.e. Garrett's foreign jump wings~

While we waited for the next plane to arrive Garrett and the kiddos went through a few drills...

Daddy's turn!

We also played some hide & seek...

The camouflaged ACU really does work!!

Still waiting for that next plane...

There it is!

It was a little bitter-sweet for Garrett....watching this jump....since our leave date is right around the corner his wings have been 'hung up' so to speak.  Who knows if we'll be in an Airborne unit again.  But I'm sure glad the kiddos and I finally were able to go!
