Asheville ~ Days 1-2

Well, our days are numbered before Garrett's deployment and we are currently on block leave.  So we decided to pack up and head to the mountains of Asheville, NC for a little Q.T. family getaway.  As I post this we are 2 days into our trip and are having SUCH a great time.  We've really fallen in love with the place, it is simply beautiful!  We booked a two bedroom cabin on the Willow Winds property.  (a little side note, we are IN LOVE with our accomodations and would recommend it to anyone traveling to Asheville!)  The picture in the header above is a view of the trout pond from our large covered back deck.  After the roughly 4 1/2 hour drive and checking in, Kayla immediately wanted to try her hand at fishing (for the first time).  So down the hill she and Garrett marched.  Gavin and I watched from the said deck and with the first cast Kayla reeled in a BIG trout!  She was SO excited.  We were so excited!  What a great way to kick off our vacation!

*please excuse the crazy hair, Kayla was so excited to cast off she didn't stop for a minute for me to freshen her up after our drive :)*

Our first full day brought some gloomy weather so we found our way to The Health Adventure in downtown Asheville.  It's the local children's museum and they were hosting a traveling exhibit, Alice's Wonderland.

The kiddos loved it as well as their permanent exhibits.

Back at our cabin, after a little picnic lunch the weather parted for a bit so we set off to explore the Willow Winds property.  Nestled among the trees it's complete with the trout pound, playgrounds, streams, little nature trails, and SO much more!  It is also generously dotted with the ever popular hammocks.

We were pushing nap time and I seriously think if we left Gavin here a few minutes longer he would have been sacked out!

The nature trail.  Kayla was determined to spot a bear.  But with her constant yammering I'm surprised we even saw the butterfly we did!
