Grammy Karen has come and gone since I last blogged! It was a whirlwind of activity ~ sight-seeing, crafting, Easter, and kite flying! So I'll just get right to it! Right now the National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC is going on. It's about a three week spread of daily activities all around the DC area to celebrate Spring, the blooming cherry blossom trees, and the friendship between Japan and the US {more on all that in the next post}. A much anticipated event is the Blossom Kite Festival! It takes place right on the National Mall overlooking the Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, and Lincoln Memorial. Although that area was the official site of the festival ... as the day went on the kite fliers packed in spreading from the WWII Memorial to the Capital Building! Truly an awesome sight. We made our way in via the Metro and staked out a spot just as the festivities were kicking off. We had a great view of the Monument, Memorials, and demonstration field where the pros showed off their flying skills set to music. Before the fun could begin, our first task was to assemble the kites!
To start off, the wind wasn't ideal .... so there was a lot of running back and forth to get the kites up...
That was a lot of fun, but it worked up an appetite. Good thing we loaded up daddy's backpack with a picnic lunch!
Finally! After lunch the wind picked up with sporadic bursts....
and we got Macaw and Panda up there!
Along with everyone else :)

...and my personal favorite...
Such a fun day! And seriously!? Where better to fly a kite?! Throughout the day I would stop and just look around...soaking it all in... here we are...in our Nation's Capital!.....flying a kite with not a care in the world. Love and blessings...that's what I was feeling.
Have I mentioned how much we love where we call Home now?!
