This last Saturday Kayla had off from soccer because of the Holiday weekend so we made good use of the free day and beautiful weather and went to the North Carolina Zoo. It's about a 1.5 hour drive to the the zoo so we don't get there very often. Which is to bad because it really is a great zoo. Small, compared to the World Famous Zoo Garrett and I grew up with....but still, very nice and we always have a good time when we go :) .
One of the first exhibits we saw were the Chimpanzees! In the world of monkeys Chimps aren't the cutest....
Unless it's a baby Chimp! This little guy was adorable and so fun to watch!
The wide open area for the Rhinos and Elephants is so pretty this time of year.
All I wanted was a photo with my favorite zoo animal and my boy......BOTH were not interested in cooperating!
Yep. They melt my heart.
Right now the zoo has a special exhibit going on through the Fall, Dinosaurs! it was a BIG hit.
These huge figures actually moved a bit and roared!
Some even spit water!
Gavin was a little nervous about some of them and his faced looked a lot like this most of the time. But we told him to just roar back and that seemed to break his fears a bit :)
They even had a little area where the kiddos could brush the sand away and look for fossils.
A trip to the zoo wouldn't be complete without a ride on the merry-go-round!
How do my kids grow out of their pants so quickly?!
In the North America section where the Buffalo roam there's a fun replica of Old Faithful that goes off every 5 minutes.
Soon after this Gavin was getting pretty short tempered and nap time was calling so we decided to head home. It was probably our last trip to this zoo and it's one it the many things we'll miss about living here, but 'adventure is out there!' and we're looking forward to it!
