Williamsburg, VA

OK, so we got back from our spur of the moment trip to Williamsburg on Tuesday but of course it's taken me a few days to get our photos edited and up on the blog. The drive up there took about 4 1/2 hours and Kayla did great. We had a nice long lunch break half way so Kayla could run out some energy and then she slept most of the second half :). Our first outing was to Busch Gardens. Super Fun! This was Kayla's first official amusement park with rides galore and they had just enough rides and activities for her to enjoy that it made it worth the day spent there. She was awesome, such an adventurous little spirit! Any ride that she could go on she welcomed and LOVED. Including this one,

Unfortunately we didn't take many photos at Busch Gardens because, well, we were to busy having fun!

The second day we headed out to Colonial Williamsburg. If you're fascinated with U.S. history and how things were, this is the place to visit. It's like you're literally walking into the past. Basically, Colonial Williamsburg consists of several square blocks of the PERFECTLY preserved first capital of Virginia town area as it was in the Revolutionary War days. Complete with houses, gardens, pastures, shops, taverns, the church, Governor's home, and Capital building. And everyone working in the park are dressed the part. There is A LOT to see and do, and of course we couldn't do it all. But it was a great time and we look forward to doing it again someday.

Most of all it's just an incredibly beautiful peaceful area that Kayla could get out of the stroller and walk around and enjoy like us. And she did, I think she was out of the stroller more than she was in it!

Back at our hotel we had a full kitchen so we were able to save a little cash and the headache of going out, and I cooked our dinners. I think Kayla really appreciated it!

We also hit up a great toy shoppe within the Yankee Candle Megastore. Fun free entertainment for Kayla (mom and dad had a good time too) and we managed to get out with only a new puzzle and small stuffed giraffe.

All in all it was an awesome first official family vacation! We had a wonderful time together just relaxing and having fun. It was definitely a learning experience for Garrett and I, the whole vacation and toddler thing. Obviously we couldn't go about it like our vacations pre-baby. But the change of pace was fun and exciting because it was all for our sweet girl. To see how much she was enjoying herself made it worthwhile.
