Continuing on with documenting my mom and grandmas visit (they left to go back home on Tuesday :( ). We planed a little trip within their trip out here. On Friday we packed up and traveled to central NC to spend two nights at an awesome b&b and went to the zoo. It was about an hour and thirty minute drive to the b&b so we wanted Kayla to be able to fall asleep pretty much immediately after getting in the car. So I thought....ok.....where can we go to burn A LOT of energy before the drive. Instantly jumping time came to mind. It worked. Beautifully. Maybe to well.

and walked four houses down to the Arscott house where we stayed.

Both houses were awesome, so much history. The innkeeper is the granddaughter of Mr. Blair who built the main house back in the late 1800s. For more history on the houses you can go here.
Our one full free day was spent at the zoo. A great little zoo that was definitely worth the trip.

At the mid-way point in the park was a carousel. Kayla was overjoyed to see it. She could not get on it fast enough.
we went on it twice
and then it was time to get off.
yes......i was totally that mom......holding her screaming child and taking photos of her at the same time....memories.We were so proud of grandma Loraine! The zoo had some serious hills to climb and she hung in there! We took our time, enjoyed the scenery, and made it to the top.
Our trip to the zoo was completed with a few souvenirs.
After leaving the zoo, Kayla crashed in the car. So we decided to let her sleep for everyone's sake and kept on driving, exploring the countryside. We found the one and only surviving covered bridge in the area. Very cool.

That same night we tried something risky.........we went out to dinner. A full day at the zoo, hour long nap in the car, and we knew we were pushing it. But you gotta eat right. A little fyi.....we don't go to restaurants much right now. For the last several months Kayla has been in a phase where it's just to stressful to keep her content in the high chair and it's truly just not worth it to us. Good thing I like to cook. Sooooooo......I was nervous about the lack of recent restaurant experience and the busy day did not help my nerves. It started off well. Kayla was entertained with coloring.......apparently not so thrilled with my mom joining in.

The food took longer than hoped for and we all were getting a little antsy. Kayla had eaten everything I brought for her and the rolls on the table, the books and crayons were no longer of interest, and our food had still not arrived. Then to our dismay, we watched panic-stricken, as Kayla made the sign for 'all done', ripped off her bib, rolled up her place mat, and began repeating down down down while pointing to the ground. crap. Grandma Loraine chimes in with 'it's kind of like sitting here with a time bomb. you're not quite sure when it's gonna go off but you know it's not gonna be pretty'! hysterical. so true. Finally our food arrived. I scarfed mine down and in an effort to let my mom and grandma eat in peace, took Kayla for a little walk outside. Across the street from the restaurant was this church.

BEAUTIFUL!! And built in 1820!! Their grass made a nice play area for Kayla.
These last photos are from our last morning at the b&b. After breakfast and before hitting the road back home we roamed the grounds at the Blair House.

We had a fabulous time in North Carolina! So many great moments to remember and be cherished. The Inn Keeper referred to us as the "Generation Table". Thank you Julie for your southern hospitality! :)
Kayla is such a good little traveler and so much fun.
