San Diego ~ pools, cars, and zoo nights

OK; seriously!  I just need to wrap up these last two post from our time in San Diego.  The kiddos and I have been back in Arizona for over two weeks now and big things have happened like a 5th birthday and kindergarten!!  And of course, the Olympics.  Garrett and I are Olympic junkies and it's been really fun this time around because the kiddos have gotten into cheering and rooting on team USA.  This year has also been a bit significant because we realized that this was actually the first Summer Games we've gotten to watch together...ever!  ahhhhh Army life, what ya gonna to do?!

So anyways.... back to San Diego.  One special family I always try to hang out with for a bit are the Nocons.  I started babysitting Shannon when she was ONE and Kelly wasn't even around yet.  And now Shannon is in college and Kelly is a senior in high school!!  yikes.

They have a great pool so of course the kiddos had to try it out after dinner.  Thankfully Rey was willing to jump right in with them!  It was a lot of fun watching them in there because I have SO many memories of being in this same pool with Shannon and Kelly when they were this age.  It was a bit surreal.

We went to our community's Car Show.  They do it every Thursday evening during the summer months.  The street is lined with beautiful classic cars and every one we passed Gavin would point at and shout 'nice car!'.  Unfortunately this was the only photo I could get :(

Since my mom works for the police department she has a few connections our kiddos benefit from....like a private viewing of a police car! ;)

The kiddos LOVED it and Gavin threw a major fit when he had to leave! {they were also doused in sanitizer after sitting in the back of that squad car!}

The final big thing we did in SD was a zoo night with my mom!  During the Summer the zoo extends their hours and has extra programs going on.  This year's theme was 'China Celebration' in honor of the ever popular Panda exhibit.

Gavin was cracking us up in the petting zoo.  He just HAD to get down and look each goat in the eye!  Funny kid.

yep.  they're still my second favorite to see at the zoo.  note the one in the background...he's actually asleep too ;)

ohhhhh the dolphin......  Kayla was so SUPER excited about her first face painting!

The Dragon Dance : Gavin was really getting into it LOL!!

The Monkey King Stilt Walkers: Kayla was loving them...Gavin, not so much!

And the rhinos!  Holy cow, these rhinos were...active....to say the least, and gathering quite the crowd!  I'm really not sure if they were playing or fighting...I'm kind of thinking fighting...but we couldn't take our eyes off them!

On our way out we got to see these adorable boys doing their juggling dance.  They were seriously fun to watch!

A couple days later we packed up and hit the road to return home to daddy!  This was a long visit and by the end we were all ready to be home and living our daily routines.  Grammy Karen made the drive home with us too!

When you're in the middle of the desert with nothing around for miles...and your 2yr old shouts out 'need to go potty mommy!!'  What else can you really do?!  HAHA he's gonna hate me for this photo someday :)
